HypeX is the bridge between designers, brands, and the metaverse.
I was hired as a UI Designer on contract by HypeX - an NFT-based startup based in Irvine, California. I spent 4 months as the sole designer of the team, responsible for designing the landing page for HypeX - explaining their product and plans for the future to their advisors, investors and community.
I worked closely with the CEO, product head and other investors to fully understand HypeX’s style and vision. I used Figma to design all the different versions of the UI, and helped code it as well using React components working with the front-end developer on the team. I also helped design a ton of visuals ranging from social media posts, motion graphics videos and also designed their pop-up booth at Decentralized Miami - one of the biggest startup events for crypto-based projects.
HypeX is the bridge between fashion designers/brands, and metaverses. HypeX will create a platform for brands and fashion designers to enable them to get into the crypto and NFT world without any previous technical knowledge. We will help them mint and drop their wearable NFT designs. These wearables are designed to be worn in metaverses and be collected/ traded as NFTs on 3rd party marketplaces. In addition, every wearable will be part of a drop, which will be available for users to purchase by staking our token, $HYPEX, and therefore participating in a raffle for each drop.
The team’s expectation was for a progressive, cutting edge landing page which really delivers their vision and connects with their user persona of sneakerheads who get attracted to strong and trendy designs.
Their main competitor stylistically was NBA Topshot and wanted to follow a similar "street" artstyle whilst maintaining the original identity and colors.
NBA Top Shot's edgy 'street' style
The team shared with me their existing wireframes and it was a very basic skeleton which was put together by the CEO and their marketing team when they initially started back in early 2021.
This gave me a simple base with ideas and some direction on art style to start off of, as it provided me with the content I had to display in the landing page and also some stylistic elements that they really wanted to keep such as the Nike AirMag.
Right from the beginning, I wanted a clear vision of the team's expectations on how to visually represent HypeX to the world. I set out to create a Moodboard which took inspiration from the most followed crypto projects in the world at the time
I started with redesigning the old version I was provided (or v0 as I called it) into a low/mid-fidelity version to better understand the layout, structure and flow of the landing page.
Here's the final version which was deployed - started with redesigning the old version I was provided (or v0 as I called it) into a low/mid-fidelity version to better understand the layout, structure and flow of the landing page.
I collaborated with the front-end developer and helped code the website using React components. It was my first time designing front-end web design through JS components and it was pretty straightforward and easy to learn. I appreciated the simplicity of using individual components than scramble through blocks of code under a single css file.

Even after completing my project successfully, I wanted to keep pushing and develop a cleaner version of the landing page. I got more used to their vision and style and here's the v2.0 that I designed. The team is currently using their domain for hosting a 'Sneaker Contest' for designers to better grow and develop their community. However, we are still planning on deploying v2.0 later in 2022.
Since the team was new and had a lack of designers onboard, as the sole UI Designer I was helping across the board when it came to anything design - be it social media posts, banners for new announcements, and even motion graphics.
My proudest moment working with HypeX was when I saw my design in HypeX's booth in DCentral Miami - the largest NFT+DeFi conference where the industry leaders in art, fashion and other creative fields converge. The booth got a lot of visits from potential investors, infuencers, and even 24K Golden - one of my favorite rappers!
